Palm Pre – Embracing “standards that web developers already know and love”
We are always pleased to see advances and innovation in the mobile apps space, and have been reading up on Palm’s new device, the Palm Pre.

What is particularly interesting about this announcement, is how apps are going to be built.
Objective C ?- no
Java? – no
Some other proprietary scripting language? – no (well not really)
Web Languages? – yes!
Accoring to Palm’s developer site:
Palm webOS applications are easy to write using Mojo, a new application framework based on the HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript standards that web developers already know and love. WebOS applications are installed and run directly on the device at native speed and have access to a wide range of device services.
Wow – this sounds very familiar. Regular readers will note that we’ve done the same thing with Breeze for J2ME devices – allowing developers to create great internet enabled apps using guess what – HTML, CSS and JavaScript – all running natively on the phone. There will also be an App Catalog to deliver apps directly to users.
Now to some, this might create yet another porting headache, but we see it a little differently. Breeze Apps are already created with the same technologies.
While we certainly won’t make any promises we can’t keep – we are definitely going to dive in and see if we can offer something for this platform too. Keep an eye open here for updates.
